Participants dive into the colourful world of clowning - with red noses, big feelings, bold choices, and lots of opportunities for joyful connection.

Drama for Elders - Clowning 2

This term, Drama for Elders returns with Clowning 2 - a playful and creative journey building on our exploration of clowning, character, and improvisation. Participants dive into the colourful world of clowning - with red noses, big feelings, bold choices, and lots of opportunities for joyful connection.

Each session includes a gentle warm-up (with seated options), a friendly check-in, creative drama exercises, costume exploration, and our well-loved tea and biscuit break.

Sessions are relaxed, welcoming, and designed so you can participate in a way that feels right for you - whether you're ready to jump in or prefer to take it at your own pace.

This term, we’ll also work towards a public sharing at Church Street Library at the end of the term (date TBC). There's no pressure to perform - it's all about celebrating the fun and creativity we’ve explored together!

This term includes:

  • Clowning, character creation, and improvisation

  • Warm-ups and theatre games

  • Costume and look design with the wonderful Caroline Jones

  • Tea and biscuit breaks to connect and chat

  • A joyful sharing event for friends and community (optional)

No previous experience is necessary - just bring your curiosity and sense of play!

About Drama for Elders

Drama for Elders is part of Dendê Collective’s ongoing commitment to creative engagement with older adults. Sessions are free, fun, and designed to support wellbeing, self-expression, and friendship through the arts. Whether exploring pantomime, mask work, or clowning, each term brings a new creative focus.

    André Pink

    Mask Specialist and Artistic Director of Dende Collective

    André Pink is the Artistic Director of Dendê Collective. He trained with master clown teacher Philippe Gaulier and regularly teaches clowning at drama schools across the UK. With over 20 years’ experience in theatre and community arts, André’s passion is creating inclusive, playful spaces where everyone can find their creative voice.

    Caroline Jones

    Designer

    Caroline Jones is a theatre designer and creative facilitator known for her vibrant, imaginative costume and set designs. She has previously worked with Dende Collective on projects like Cinderella, Masquerade, and Fruits R Us, bringing her expertise in visual storytelling to help participants create bold, joyful characters.

Church Street Library has one large community space and two private meeting rooms for hire. There are two private meeting rooms, each with one table and three chairs. Prices: There is a large open plan space with a kitchenette. Tables, chairs, a flip chart stand, and a digital projector and screen are available for use.
